Feminism and Pragmatism
RICHARD RORTY is a Professor of Humanities at the University of Virginia. He received his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Yale University in 1956 and taught at Wellesley and Princeton universities after service in the U.S. Army. Professor Rorty has been awarded grants from the American Council of Learned Societies and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and has held numerous fellowships and visiting professorships. He has received the following lectureships: Howison Lecturer, University of California, Berkeley; Northcliffe Lecturer, University College, London ; Clark Lecturer, Trinity College, Cambridge; and Romanell Lecturer, Phi Beta Kappa. Many of his works are translated and internationally published, including Philosophy and the Mirror of Nature (1979) and Contingency, Irony and Solidarity (1989).
