The Uses of Diversity
CLIFFORD GEERTZ was born in San Francisco in 1926 and educated at Antioch College and Harvard University. He has done extensive field work in Java and Bali in Indonesia and also in Morocco, and for ten years taught at the University of Chicago, where he was Professor of Anthropology and Chairman of the Committee for the Comparative Study of New Nations.
