STANLEY CAVELL was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1926. He is currently Walter M. Cabot Professor of Aesthetics and the General Theory of Value at Harvard University. He is the author of many books including Must We Mean What We Say? and Disowning Knowledge: In Six Plays of Shakespeare.
