ROALD Z. SAGDEEV is a graduate of Moscow State University. He worked for five years at the Institute of Atomic Energy, served as the head of the Plasma Theory Laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk from 1961 to 1970, and later was head of the Institute of High Temperature Physics, Moscow.
