Judith Jarvis Thomson is professor of philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was educated at Barnard College and at Cambridge University, and she received her Ph.D. from Columbia University. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and has also been a fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study, Oslo, Norway.
