David Brion Davis is Sterling Professor of History Emeritus at Yale University and Director Emeritus of Yale’s Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition. He was educated at Dartmouth and Harvard Universities, and he received his Ph.D. from the latter. He was the Harmsworth Professor at Oxford University for one year, after having previously taught at Cornell University for fourteen years.
