DONALD D. BROWN was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1931, and educated at Dartmouth College and the University of Chicago, where he received an M.D. degree. After an internship in New Orleans, he served two years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health, doing full-time research.
