Melanne Verveer served as the first US Ambassador for Global Women’s Issues from 2009 to 2013. Today she is the Director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. The institute highlights the experiences of women in peace and security through cutting-edge research and strategic partnerships. The institute recognizes that women’s participation is critical to conflict prevention and peacebuilding. Verveer also serves as the Special Representative for Gender for the Chairmanship of the OSCE. Earlier she co-founded the Vital Voices Global Partnership, an NGO that invests in emerging women leaders, serving as its chair and CEO. During the Clinton administration, she was chief of staff to First Lady Hillary Clinton.
