Sir Sydney Kentridge Q.C. was educated at the University of Witwatersrand and at Oxford University, where he took an honors degree in jurisprudence. He was called to the Bar in South Africa in 1949 and practiced there as an advocate for more than thirty years. In the early 1960s he acted for Nelson Mandela in the Šrst of his treason trials and acted for the family of Steven Biko at the inquest into the events surrounding his death. Since the early 1980s he has practiced as a barrister in London, where he was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1984.
