Dorothy Allison has been called “one of the best writers of her generation” by the Boston Globe and “simply stunning” by the New York Times. She was born in Greenville, South Carolina, graduated from Florida Presbyterian College, and did graduate work in urban anthropology at the New School for Social Research in New York. She serves on the board of PEN International, and has lectured or taught master classes in writing programs at universities around the country, including Yale, Stanford, Wesleyan, the University of California at Los Angeles, Columbia, Rutgers, Dartmouth, Vassar, Emory, and Hamilton College.
