Only an Illusion

ILYA PRIGOGINE was born in Moscow and is now a citizen of Belgium. He received his doctorate in science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1941 and has been Professor at that institution since 1951. Since 1957 he has been Director of the Instituts Internationaux de Physique et de Chimie, fondés par E. Solvay, and, since 1967, Regents’ Professor of Physics and Chemical Engineering at the Center for Statistical Mechanics and Thermodynamics of the University of Texas at Austin. In 1981 he was appointed Special Advisor to the Commission of the European Communities.
