JÁNOS KORNAI is Head of the Department, Institute of Economics, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Professor of Economics at Harvard University. He received a Doctor of Economics degree from the Karl Marx University of Economics, Budapest, in 1961 and a Doctor of Sciences degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1965.
