DAVID M. KENNEDY is Donald J. McLachlan Professor of History at Stanford University. He was educated at Stanford University and received his Ph.D. at Yale. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Florence and the Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford. He has served on the advisory board for PBS’s “The American Experience,” and since 2002 has served on the board of the Pulitzer Prizes. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
