SAUL BELLOW was born in Canada of Russian immigrant parents who moved to Chicago in 1924. He was educated at the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Wisconsin. He worked on the WPA Writers’ Project, taught at the University of Minnesota, and has been, since 1963, Professor for the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.
